“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “Tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:28-31
This is the story of the disciples in the boat and Jesus came to them walking on the water. As soon as Peter realized it was Jesus he said to Him (In today’s terms) Can I come out and meet you? I love Peter because he was bold and out there. He wasn’t afraid to take a risk and do something out of the box. Peter actually walked on the water to Jesus, but like many of us, when he took his eyes off of Jesus and looked around at his circumstances, he began to sink.
We can learn a few valuable lessons from Peter and this story:
#1 – Be bold enough to take a step of faith. Get out of your boat of familiar things and take a risk. If you are ever going to do something great… like walk on the water, you have to be bold & believe.
#2 – Keep your eyes on Jesus. When things get stormy in life don’t look around at the wind and waves, keep your eyes on Jesus and He will get you through it all. As long as you keep your eyes on Jesus you will not sink in life.
#3 When you start to sink in life, cry out to Jesus. Peter cried out, “Lord save me,” and Jesus was right there lifting him up out of the water. Never doubt God’s ability to reach down and pull you up. God will never fail you!
“Because you’re not yet taking God seriously,” said Jesus. “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy-seed, say, you would tell this mountain, ‘Move!’ and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.” Matthew 17:20 (The Message)
We all have days when we are sinking. Today may be one of those days for you. Things may be sinking at work, at home, or in your finances, but keep your eyes on Jesus. Cry out to Him and he will raise you up today! With God, there is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.
You can walk on the water if you keep your eyes on Jesus. There is no circumstances or situation that can sink your boat, unless you allow it.
“Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 (AMP)
Don’t let the distractions of life sink your boat today! Keep your focus on Jesus and start walking on the water!
