The end of the year is swiftly coming upon us. It is time to partake in the age-old tradition of setting a few New Year’s Resolutions. Studies have shown that 4 out of 5 people will fail to achieve their goals, but we set them anyway. Why do we do this? We all have the greatest of intentions, but most of us lack the follow through that it takes to actually accomplish the goals we set for ourselves. We start out strong, but by the end of January, most of us have stopped trying to achieve whatever it was that we decided we were going to do.
This year can be different and if you apply these 3 basic rules of New Year’s Resolution setting, you will achieve your goals in 2013. Are you ready? Here we go…
#1 WRITE IT DOWN
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. Habakkuk 2:2
When you write down your goals and you keep them before you daily, you are more likely to stay on track and actually accomplish what you set out to do! Go grab some paper and a pen and get busy writing! Or, you can just make yourself a note on your iPad. Whatever works!
#2 MAKE YOUR GOALS ATTAINABLE
We all want to do amazing things in life, but just be sure your goals are actually attainable. You might want to win American Idol, but if you can’t sing, you may want to rethink that goal. Keep singing in the shower! Make a joyful noise – like I do 🙂
#3 TELL YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY
The more people you tell about your goals, the more likely you are to keep it. Especially if you get a work out buddy, or a friend to help keep you accountable. Whatever your goal may be – eating healthy, reading your Bible every day, or kicking a bad habit, friends can help you stay on track.
Have a fabulous time setting your goals for the New Year! May you reach them all and be all you can be in 2013!
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
Henry David Thoreau
Wishing you a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!
