As I’m typing this post there are exactly 35 days, 844 hours, 50670 minutes and 30401195 seconds until the year 2013. It’s so crazy to think that this year is almost over. What have you done this year to live a better life for God, to be a better person, to make a difference in your world? These are all questions we begin to ask ourselves as another year comes to a close. Many of us will make resolutions and write down goals that will hopefully bring about a change in our lives, a change for the better.
I want to challenge you to end this year strong! You have 35 days to make 2012 great! I was reading Genesis 1:1, it simply states, “In the beginning, God…” My point is God first! That is the priority that should dominate our lives. If we can put God first for the next 35 days in this year, hopefully you can establish a habit that will lead you to success in 2013… a habit of seeking God first every day! It really is easy if we make it a priority. We all do what we really want to do…right? We just have to make seeking God first something we really want to do! This simple principle will change your life forever. Take a look at Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” How do we seek God first? We spend time in prayer, reading the Bible and even fasting.
When you make time daily to read the Bible and pray, it will make a difference in your life. You won’t be as stressed, frustrated, and confused about what to do in life. Prayer is simply talking to God about everything. God designed us to need Him…we all have a God sized hole if you will, and only God can fill it. Fasting is something that a lot of Christians haven’t even tried, but it is so powerful! It shifts your priorities, helps you hear clearly from God, and brings a great sense of direction.
Isaiah 58:6-9 (The Message) says this about fasting:
“This is the kind of fast day I’m after:
to break the chains of injustice,
get rid of exploitation in the workplace,
free the oppressed, cancel debts.
What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
sharing your food with the hungry,
inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
being available to your own families.
Do this and the lights will turn on,
and your lives will turn around at once.
Your righteousness will pave your way.
The God of glory will secure your passage.
Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.”
I challenge you now to make the most of the days you have left in 2012! Put God first. Spend time in prayer, read the Bible, let God be your source and try fasting. See what God will do for you! Do you need clarity? Do you need direction? God has every answer you need, He is simply waiting to hear form you!
