“Behold, the Lord’s eye is upon those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe], who wait for Him and hope in His mercy and loving-kindness, To deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. Our inner selves wait [earnestly] for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield. For in Him does our heart rejoice, because we have trusted (relied on and been confident) in His holy name. Let Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You.” Psalm 33:18-22 (Amplified Bible)
What does it mean to fear God? This verse above says God is looking for those who fear Him, those who wait for Him, and hope in Him! Fearing God doesn’t mean to be afraid of God. (I wrote another post about this topic entitled, “Let me tell you a secret.” ) To fear God simply means that we are terrified to be away from God. It means that we honor, respect, esteem, and stand in awe of God, more than anything else, or anyone else. When we fear God we love what God loves, and we hate what God hates.
“Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Proverbs 9:10
Do you long for more of God in your life? The verse above says, “Our inner selves wait earnestly for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield.” I love how this verse depicts such a longing for God. Let’s take a peek at how the word earnestly is defined: serious in intention, purpose, or effort; sincerely zealous. When we seek God we have to do it with serious intention, with purpose and put some effort behind it! Seek God with zeal. If you have not been spending time with God like you once did, I encourage you to make a new committment today to go after God earnestly, and with purpose. To know God is the greatest thing you can ever pursue in this life!
Life gets busy, I get it. Psalm 33:22 goes on to say this,”Let Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You.” Did you get that? The same proportion to which we wait on God will be the proportion to which His mercy and loving-kindness will be upon us! WOW! You can say it like this… what you put into your relationship with God is what you will get out of it! You are as close to God as YOU want to be! Get fired up to earnestly seek God today. Don’t settle for where you’re at currently with God, earnestly long for more of Him! You will get back whatever you put into this amazing relationship with the Creator of the Universe and so much more!
Go after God will all your heart, soul and strength and you won’t be disappointed!
I hope today’s post got you fired up for more of God in your life!
