Just Relax…After All It Is National Relaxation Day!

I bet you didn’t know that today is National Relaxation Day.  If you’re anything like me you are probably not relaxing today.  We all live in such a fast-paced world that can be very stressful and overwhelming at times.  National Relaxation Day is all about taking a step back and slowing down the pace.  It’s about allowing yourself to rest, unwind, and relax.  After all, that is how God wants us to live our every day lives…at peace, right?

God created everything in six days and then you know what He did…you got it, He rested.  So, I guess you can say National Relaxation Day was really God’s idea a long, long time ago.  Rest is good, no actually it’s pretty great!  If we don’t take time to rest and recharge we can easily get burnt out from day-to-day life.  We can become easily frustrated, grouchy, and even down right mean if we let stress take its toll on us.  There is a good reason that God gave us the command to rest on the seventh day.  Take a look at Genesis 2:2-3 just so you know I’m telling the truth here…

“By the seventh day God had finished his work. On the seventh day he rested from all his work. God blessed the seventh day.  He made it a Holy Day, Because on that day he rested from his work, all the creating God had done.” The Message

“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to God, your God. Don’t do any work—not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. For in six days God made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore God blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day.”  Exodus 20:8-10 The Message

God was pretty serious about rest.  From the scripture above it looks like on the seventh day we are pretty much just suppose to lay around and relax.  No laundry, no dishes, no shopping, no work of any kind.  How many of us really observe this scripture?  Would our lives be a lot less hectic if we did?  I think so!  For most of us, rest doesn’t come naturally.  It is hard to relax and just do nothing. There is always something to get done, something we have to do right away or the world will end!  God knew we needed times of rest, times of refreshing to keep going.  When we rest in God He refreshes us and gives us the much-needed strength to endure life’s craziness!

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

For some of us it is all about letting GO.  Let go and trust God that He will take care of the things that you are worried about.  So take a deep breath today, relax and let go!  God will work all things out for your good.  He knows what you need and He has a way of opening the right door at the right time.  Relax … God is holding you today!  There is nothing too difficult for our God, nothing is impossible for Him!
