Have you ever been in a conversation with a friend and your mind was someplace else? You could hear them talking, but you were not really listening. You were physically there, but your mind was far, far away. It’s easy to allow ourselves to venture off into another place in our minds, and our hearts. A lot of times we do the same thing in church. I’ve been thinking about the verse in Psalm 92:13 that says:
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. ”
I love this verse! I don’t know about you, but I want to flourish where I’m planted. You first have to plant yourself. Find a church that teaches the Word of God and be committed there. When you plant yourself in God’s house you will begin to grow, flourish and bloom. As you begin to serve and give of your time and your talents you will find your place. If you have a “Type A” personality, (like me), you need to feel like you are accomplishing something, making a difference… if you feel unfulfilled where you’re at, try getting involved. Wherever there is a need in the church, fill it. It may not be where you would necessarily like to serve long-term, but if you give of your time and keep your heart right, God will open the door for you to do more in time. When you are faithful over the small things, God will make you ruler over much! The Bible says in Proverbs 18:6:
“A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men”
God has given you a gift to bless other people. Everyone has a gift, or a talent. It may be singing, playing an instrument, or just making people feel valued when they walk in the room. You don’t have to be able to speak, sing, or play an instrument to be used by God. Sometimes, we need to realize that we can give a hug, a smile or an encouraging word to someone and make a difference.
So, wherever you are, BE THERE! Give it all you’ve got. Be the best usher, greeter, singer, musician, nursery worker…etc you can possibly be for God. Do it all unto God, not unto men. When you plant yourself in God’s house, be assured that you will flourish. Check out the definition of flourish below, it’s pretty cool:
God wants you to thrive, not just show up at church and warm a seat, then go home. If you are not growing, getting closer to God, thriving where you are at, find a place that you can begin to flourish and plant yourself there. Who you connect yourself with determines where you will go in life. Connect yourself with people and a church that brings you to a higher level in your walk with God. Don’t settle for anything less. My prayer for you today is that you will flourish where you are planted!
